Properly fitting Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) is essential for protecting employees from harmful airborne hazards. Our Fit Testing service ensures masks provide an effective seal, meeting the requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations and UK health and safety legislation.
Why Fit Testing Matters

A poorly fitted mask can compromise safety and compliance. Upon successful testing, participants receive a certificate of compliance, valid for the specific mask tested.

Qualitative Fit Testing
We test disposable, reusable, and half-masks using qualitative methods. This process verifies that the mask forms a proper seal, ensuring maximum protection in hazardous environments.

- £50 per person for the first 4 individuals (minimum of 4
required) - £35 per person for each additional test thereafter

- Qualitative Fit Test Report for each participant upon successful completion.
Additional Option:
Testing at our premises in Bangor, Co. Down at a reduced rate of £35 per person.
Preparing for Your Fit Test
To ensure accurate results:
- Be clean-shaven where the mask seals to your face.
- Avoid eating, drinking, smoking, or chewing gum 15 minutes before the test.
- Wear comfortable clothing that doesn’t interfere with the mask fit.
- Bring the specific respirator you use at work, including any other PPE.
- Inform us of any medical conditions that may affect testing.
Fit Testing Procedure
- Mask Selection & Briefing – Choose the correct respirator and learn proper fitting techniques.
- Comfort Assessment – Check positioning, strap tension, and overall fit.
- User Seal Check – Perform manufacturer-recommended seal checks.
- Fit Test Exercises – Normal breathing, deep breathing, head movements, talking, bending.
- Test Agents – Saccharin (sweet) or Bitrex® (bitter) used to detect leaks.
- Pass/Fail Evaluation – No detection of test agent confirms a proper seal.
- Certification – Receive a compliance certificate for the tested mask.
